JAMMU: Security forces seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including automatic grenade launchers, grenades and AK-56 rifles along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kirni area of J&K’s Poonch district on Monday.
“Based on intelligence inputs, a joint search operation was launched by J&K Police’s special operations group and the Army in Kirni area on Sunday night. During the intensive search in the treacherous terrain along the LoC, security forces recovered a bag full of arms and ammunition concealed under boulders,” Poonch SSP Ramesh Angral said, adding that four AK-56 rifles, four AK magazines, 141 AK rounds, two automatic grenade launchers, two hand grenades, two diaries, one camel bag, AK accessories and a rucksack were seized.
“Initial investigation revealed that this consignment of arms and ammunition was to be smuggled to the Kashmir Valley to activate more terrorism-related actions by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. An FIR has been registered and further details are awaited,” the SSP said.
