SC sends contempt notice to Kamra, dispenses with his personal presence

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday asked standup comic Kunal Kamra to show cause why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him for making derogatory posts on social media platforms scandalising the apex court and attempting to show it in bad light.
A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah asked Kamra to respond in six weeks to three petitions, one by an advocate and two by law students, seeking contempt proceedings against him. However, it dispensed with his personal presence.
It said that the three petitions were filed after obtaining the consent of the attorney general of India.
